75 Miles Safety After Light Comes On

January 9, 2014 about Toyota Corolla

Car is 2013 Corolla, automatic trans. I can confirm what others have said - light comes on when you are 10 gallons down. My car gets low 30's mpg. After light came on, I drove another 30 miles. When I filled up, car took 11 gallons. Even though the car has a 13 gal tank, you cannot safely use the last 1/2 gallon, so I estimate that after the light comes on you have 2 1/2 gals. Multiply that by 30, and you get 75 miles. I think this is a safe, conservative estimate.

It does tend to go iffy after a while, but I would try it somewhere 1st, just on a big piece of caarbordd, or maybe a spot inside your shed or garage, if it seems ok and dries ok, then try a top coat over it too, just to be 100% sure, the last thing you need is a room you need to strip back and redo. You never know, so try it before you throw it out.

The more I've thought about it, the more I've dideced that resolutions just don't work for me. I'm much better at finishing To Do Lists. I had a 3-ring binder notebook from high school that was filled with all the notes I had passed with my friends. Those were lost in a move, and I still get sad over that. I definitely understand. Happy New Year and Happy Writing to you too Kristie.

Thanks for this information. I just replaced my 2003 Corolla with a 2013 Corolla. I was shocked that the gas light came on today at 325 miles when I would get 360 before it would come on in the old car. When I filled up the 2013 Corolla, it was only 10.1 gallons (my worst fuel economy since getting the car about a month ago). I looked it up and it has a 13.2 gallon tank. I would think the light would not come on until the last two gallons, but it seems everyone states it comes on after 10 gallons of use. It is kind of annoying really. On my 2003 Corolla, I regularly filled up and it was 10.8 gallons and the fuel light still had not come on. It is just good to know I can get my regular 330-350 miles of use before filling up.
